Deadpool & Wolverine: A Bittersweet End to the Fox Marvel Universe, Met with the Glorious Resurrection of Marvel’s Jesus!

Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, follows the adventure of our favorite Merc with the Mouth’s first MCU outing with none other than everyone’s favorite X-Man, Wolverine.

With 20th Century Fox being acquired by The Walt Disney Company, there are a lot of things in question but the biggest eyebrow raising one of them all is what is going to happen to our favorite red-spandex-wearing-foulmouth-ryan-reynolds-crossed-with-a-shar-pei looking anti-hero. Deadpool was one of the few franchises from 20th Century Fox that was still a diamond in the rough. Luckily, Deadpool & Wolverine shows that not only was Walt Disney Studios & Marvel Studios up for the task but they delivered one of the best summer blockbusters of 2024 and getting fans clamoring and shouting “WE ARE BACK!”

I can’t give this movie a thorough review without going into spoiler territory so be warned! Throughout the whole movie, I was laughing non-stop and cheering along with the rest of the audience. This film was definitely for all of us millennials because this movie felt like a love letter to the 20th Century Fox Marvel films that we grew up on. Now putting NSYNC to the mix, you know us 30-plus year olds are going to have a great time!

Like with any Deadpool film, the fourth wall-breaking and the humor are going to be non-stop but at the core of it, there is a heartwarming and sentimental challenge that Wade Wilson must overcome. There were some parts of the film where I felt that his and Vanessa’s break up did not feel as natural as it could be. Another item I was hoping to see was flashback scenes of Wolverine’s backstory so that the pay off of his efforts felt more satisfying. Cassandra Nova definitely served her purpose as a one-off MCU villain which was somewhat disappointing given how powerful she is but hey it’s the multiverse, never know when we will see her again. Although there are some things I think could have been improved, this film’s main purpose was to deliver an absolutely over the top buddy cop flick that wipes away our superhero fatigue and it definitely did.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s dynamic is always such a pleasure to experience. Through all of the media interviews leading up to the film (Hey Ryan and Hugh, Dorkaholics would love a chance to interview you both if you see this), this film explores such a beautiful friendship between two unkillable characters. The quips and dialogue between Deadpool and Wolverine were very well written and kept the audience engaged from start to finish. I really hope this isn’t the last time we see these two together, I want them both to do this till they are 90!

The film knows how to do cameos just as good as No Way Home! It didn’t feel as if it was a cash grab moment but truly done as a service for the fans. The misdirection of Chris Evans as Johnny Storm was a hell of a way to kick it off! As well as honoring the fan casting of Cavillerine and letting Channing Tatum steal the show as Gambit was sensational. The return of Wesley Snipes and Jennifer Garner was a great surprise as well. I felt that this film was a great way to end the 20th Century Fox Era but hopefully it won’t be the last time we see these characters *ahem* Avengers: Secret Wars* ahem*

Overall, Deadpool & Wolverine was such a blast from the past that the whole family can enjoy! I’m just kidding, don’t bring your kids. But honestly, this movie is worth all of the clamor and buzz, you will not be disappointed.
