During this year’s Super Bowl, Marvel Studios debuted their brand-new trailer for the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home brought us visitors from across different realities, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going even further out into the Multiverse as Doctor Strange pays the consequences for breaking reality.
Our Master of the Mystic Arts is joined by Elizabeth Olsen returning as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and appearing more confident after her solitary training at the end of WandaVision.
And of course we have Benedict Wong returning as the “true” Sorcerer Supreme.
Strange will also have a new ally in America Chavez played by Xochitl Gomez, a teenager with the ability to travel between dimensions.
Chiwetel Ejiofor returns as Karl Mordo and seems ready to dish out punishment to Strange as he says, “I’m sorry, Stephen. Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished.”
And of course, Benedict Cumberbatch will also be playing a dark, twisted version of his character named Sinister Strange, who fans were introduced to in Marvel’s What If…?.
While the topic is foes and threats in Multiverse of Madness, it should also be pointed out that Scarlet Witch does not appear to be on the friendliest of terms with Strange as she remarks, “You break the rules and become the hero. I do it and I become the enemy. That doesn’t seem fair.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.
