Dorkaholics: Apocalypse April – Doom, Gloom, and Survival

by Neil Bui

I know it hasn’t been too long since I posted the last Dorkaholics Monthly Topic, but consider this me getting back on track and ahead of my editorial calendar. A major reason being that this topic excites me, Apocalypse April – Stories of Doom, Gloom, and Survival in pop culture. Now, this wasn’t the originally planned topic for April, which was supposed to be the “environment” as part of Earth Day later this month. But with coronavirus everso on everyone’s mind and the coincidence that my last instore comic shop purchases included end-of-the-world types of stories from the DC Universe, I felt this was an appropriate transition.

Comic book stories that will be explored this month include:

Miles Morales: The End by Saladin Ahmed, Damion Scott, and Scott Wilson. “THE FINAL MILES MORALES STORY! Humanity makes its last stand in the only place strong enough to survive: BROOKLYN. Former Spider-Man, Miles Morales, leads the last bastion of civilization into the future!”

Batman: Last Knight on Earth: “Powerhouse creative team Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo (Batman: The Court of Owls, Dark Nights: Metal) conclude a decade-long partnership with the Caped Crusader in Batman: Last Knight on Earth.”

In addition to comic reviews, there will also be coronavirus-related content such as the impact of COVID-19 on pop culture and how I have been adjusting to the new world. Please share what your favorite end of the world stories are for this Apocalypse April. With the world feeling like it has come to a halt as a result of the quarantining, sharing content and enjoying storytelling with each other is an easy way to stay connected with one another.
