Musical artist Ed Sheeran will be a guest star on Season 7 of Game of Thrones, the epic fantasy drama on HBO.
The news was revealed by show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss March 12 at SXSW (South by Southwest) during a panel moderated by stars of the show Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner.
Benioff said:
For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it.
No details whatsoever have been released about Sheeran’s role.

The “Shape of You” singer is joining a group of other artists who have been featured on the show in cameo roles such as Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon.
Weiss said:
A lot of [music artists] say they would like to [be on the show], and then we tell them [shooting a scene] is so boring. You’re gonna hate this – yo’re going to be sitting around three days for 12 hours a day.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO for season 7 July 16.
