With such a cliffhanger ending for Gyeongseong Creature, Netflix has reassured fans that the story will continue with a second season extending its narrative from the tumultuous spring of 1945 to the bustling streets of 2024 Seoul. The series continues against the backdrop of monstrous creations born from human greed to further entwine the fates of Jang Tae-sang and Yoon Chae-ok.
In the post-credit footage of Season 1, a character by the name of Ho-jae with a resemblance to Jang Tae-sang, turns and reveals a scar, prompting questions about who he is and how he got that scar.
“Season 2 presents a story with a completely different charm. The change in space and time period will provide a clear distinction, offering an expanded universe feel,” said director Chung Dong-yoon.
Gyeongseong Creature Season 1 captured the attention of audiences around the world with its blend of period drama and fantasy elements. CNN said “[it] deserves to be a monster hit” and TIME magazine highlighted “it is also about the world we live in today.” Three days after the series debut, Season 1 rose to third place in the Global TOP 10 (Non-English) list for Netflix content and appeared in the TOP 10 list of 69 countries including Brazil, Japan, Singapore, France, and Australia. I’m very curious what Japanese audiences have to say about the series.
