You’re finding yourself stressed and exhausted after a long day of work. Then you’re probably looking for ways that you can unwind and actually feel relaxed before you have to collapse into bed and do it all over again. Being too stressed can lead to weight gain, sleeping difficulties and an increase in your heart rate. However, it’s not always easy to actually relax after a long day of work, and it can be very hard to find the time and the energy to entertain yourself to have fun.

However, relaxation is important and you have to carve out the time even if you give yourself 20 minutes. When you finally do relax, your body can take a break from the stress that you’ve been feeling all day. You’re more likely to sleep better, you’re more likely to eat better, and you’re more likely to feel better in your mood. There are different ways that you can decompress after a very long day, and we’ve put together a list of them for you below.

  1. Find something fun. You don’t have to dedicate hours and hours of time to this activity, but finding something fun is a great way to relax. Getting online and having a flutter with Spinni, getting out your ball and needles to make something cosy for the couch, or even just painting a picture outside in nature can all help you to relax after a long day. You need to find something that distracts you from the stress of the day. So that means finding something that you would deem to be fun and rolling with it.
  2. Find something that smells good. It’s common for many people to feel exhausted after a long day, and unwinding in a bath is one of the top ways that people choose to relax. If you chuck in some essential oils such as lavender, frankincense, ylang ylang, bergamot, neroli, or rose, you’ll be able to de-stress, overcome any anxiety and improve your mood all in one fell swoop. Believe it or not, finding something that smells good is a great way to relax because you will associate the scent with that moment of relaxation. Having a hot bath on top of that is just helpful for your bones.
  3. Go outside. If you’ve just come home from work, the last thing you’re going to want to do is pull on some wellies and go outside into the mud. But honestly, taking yourself for a walk after work is probably one of the best ways that you can unwind. Shaking off the stresses of the day while you breathe in some fresh air can make all the difference to your mood and your mental health. Being in nature, even if it’s just for half an hour, can really shift how you feel and it’s also going to help you to sleep better at nighttime.
  4. Find a way to meditate. You don’t have to sit and say ‘ohm’ if you don’t want to, but yoga, Pilates or any other way that you can find to sit back and meditate will help you immensely to relax after work. The practice of meditation can help you to recharge your batteries, but it’s not just about that. You’ll improve your memory, reduce your negative thinking, and even sleep better as a result. Making a conscious effort to relax every part of your body while you meditate is going to take some time and practice, but once you’ve got it, you’ll never look back.
