How to Zoom Video Conference Like a Dork

by Neil Bui

If you’re like me, this quarantine has dramatically changed the nature of your life and work. Although now my wish (and maybe yours too) to go to work with no commute is true, a lot more time is spent face-to-face but through apps like Zoom for a video conference.

If you’re becoming well-versed in the world of Zoom and the other virtual meeting solutions out there, you may be familiar with virtual backgrounds. These digital changes of scenery allow you to transport your surrounding environment to any destination you wish, limited only by what graphics you are able to access and upload.

To set up a custom background image on Zoom:

  1. Go to the Zoom application’s settings menu
  2. Click on the Virtual Background on the left
  3. Click on the Plus icon on the right side of “Choose Virtual Background”
  4. Select and upload your preferred background image file

Now DC Comics is helping you set your location to the wondrous landmarks of the DC Universe:

From DC’s sibling company within the AT&T/Warner portfolio family, HBO has its own collection of backgrounds for you to use, click here.

I recommend the Iron Throne from Games of Thrones as well as the simple, yet cheeky background from Silicon Valley.

On the other side of town – Disney, Pixar, and their Fox properties have backgrounds from places such as Andy’s bedroom from Toy Story, The Simpson’s living room, Moe’s Tavern, and rooms within the Family Guy home.

And of course, we wouldn’t forget Marvel with their video conference wallpapers featuring the Wakandan landscape, the interior of the Sanctum Sanctorum, and of course Asgard.
