GRV Dance Crew kicked off the event with a surprise performance inspired by Netflix’s Emmy Award winning series, Squid Game. The references were not lost on attendees as the dancers were dressed as either the pink Guards or green track suit-wearing Players, with the haunting theme, “Pink Soldiers.”

The event commenced with welcome remarks from Rebecca Sun, Senior Editor Diversity & Inclusion at The Hollywood Reporter, who also served as host for the evening. She highlighted the value of working to “amplify storytelling from underrepresented communities” and that as Asian Americans “we are not a monolith.”

The evening’s cuisine was curated by MAMA Night Market, a company dedicated to preserving immigrant culture through food. The local API-owned businesses included Abbaee Wang Soondae (Korean), Sáu Can Tho (Vietnamese), Broken Mouth (Native Hawaiian), Mayura (Southern Indian), Bhanu (Northern Indian), San and Wolves (Filipino), Gu Grocery (Taiwanese), and Pha Khao Thip (Laotian), with dessert beverages provided by Bopomofo Cafe.

Artist Simon Kim unveiled a mural featuring the faces of Netflix’s 2022 slate and talent including Randall Park, Jason Momoa, Hasan Minhaj, Arden Cho, the cast of Bling Empire, references to series such as The Umbrella Academy and Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, and more!
