This week, trainers around the world can now catch over 80 new Pokémon in Pokémon Go. These creatures hail from the Johto region, a familiar place to players of the Gold and Silver/HeartGold and SoulSilver games.
Expect the Johto starters (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile) as well two Eeveelutions, Umbreon and Espeon. From the image, we can already see Marill, Bellossom, and Hoppip. Bellosom, like Umbreon and Espeon, is a new evolution for an existing Pokémon evolution line. Specifically, an alternative final form for Oddish when exposing Gloom to a Sun Stone. Along with new Pokémon and new evolutions, experience new encounter gameplay mechanics, berries, avatars, and an expanded wardrobe.
While players have gotten a small taste of Johto Pokémon through hatching certain breeds such as Pichu and Togepi from eggs, this update will allow trainers to catch these new monsters out in the wild. Get your Pokéballs ready, boys and girls.
Niantic CEO John Hanke said in a statement “Pokémon Go is a live experience which we’ll be continuing to support and evolve in new and interesting ways for years to come with new gameplay features, in-game and live events, more pokémon to discover, and much more.”
