Power Rangers has been a huge part of every millennial’s childhood whether they liked it or not. When the first five teenagers with attitude were teleported into their future base, our world was forever changed. As children, I remember running with all my friends to the playground pretend-fighting bad guys as if we were Rangers ourselves. We collected figures, morphers, Zords, and whatever memorabilia we could get our hands on. For a few years, Power Rangers reigned supreme and although their popularity diminished as people (including my friends) moved on, their allure never really went away for me. As a Sentai and Kamen Rider fan myself, I always enjoyed the American take on a popular children’s TV show from Japan.
And again, although my friends largely no longer follow Power Rangers, I’m proud to say that two very good friends of mine have fulfilled their dreams of becoming Rangers. For the last two years, Yoshi Sudarso has done an amazing job as Koda, the Blue Ranger in the 22nd and 23rd seasons of Power Rangers Dino Charge. It was a bittersweet moment when his season ended, as he passed on the torch to his younger brother, Peter Adrian Sudarso, for the 24th season of Power Rangers. Peter is now the newest Blue Ranger and plays Preston, an earnest aspiring magician. The premiere was out on Saturday, January 21, 2017, but if you missed it, don’t fret. You can watch it here.
