Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer #2 – With Great Power, Comes Great Trailers

by Kent Paisley

Since the turn of the Century, Spider-Man has had 5 movies made about his friendly neighborhood behavior, with the 6th upcoming in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This is the 3rd iteration of Spider-Man since 2000 and looks to build off the buzz created by Captain America: Civil War.

Fans were treated to an additional 149 seconds in the 2nd trailer for the movie, which was released on March 28th.

The trailer builds off of its previous iteration, providing the likely conclusion to the powerful ship splitting action sequence against Vulture. Uncle Stark comes in and saves the day, assisting young Parker through his mistakes.

While not as iconic as the with great power comes great responsibility line, the trailer invokes the emotion of that lecture with Stark proclaiming to Parker, “If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”

Vulture leaves more of a claw mark on the viewer, with more action in his suit as well. The trailer sets the stage for the mental side of the warfare Vulture will wage against Spiderman, declaring, “the rich and the powerful like Stark, they don’t care for us.”

With the lecturing that Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Iron Man always provides, the audience is setup to identify the tension between Vulture and Stark: Vulture trying to sway Peter to his side of anarchy, and Ironman trying to remind Parker that he has been there for him all along and that he’s right.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release July 7th, just over three months away. While we don’t expect this trailer to be the last, it has raised the bar for the forthcoming trailers with its snippets of vivid details. We just have to hope that with as many Spider-Man movies that have come out in recent years, we hope the movie meets the great responsibility it has for its fan base.
