‘Shazam’ being split into two films, ‘Black Adam’ separate film

The man who will portray Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson, has stated he was in a meeting with DC Comics about his role in the DC Extended Universe, and the prospect of his character having his own solo film.

Warner Bros. is following through with that sentiment and now the Shazam film will be separated into two movies. The first will still be about Shazam, while the focus of the second film will be on Black Adam.

The two character are rival counterparts, with Black Adam occasionally playing the role of an anti-hero instead of a villain.  As explored in the comic book storyline Forever Evil, characters such as him and Lex Luthor aren’t 100% evil villains. They have specific motivations and goals, which at times will have them save the day in order to meet those ends.

When Dwayne Johnson was originally approached, he is given the choice to play either Black Adam or Shazam. That being said, Warner Bros. still needs to cast the titular hero for the Shazam film.

Shazam is slated for release April 5th, 2019. But before then, we have two other installments of the DC Cinematic Universe – “Wonder Woman,” coming out June 2 and starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine; “Justice League,” coming out November 17 and features Gadot, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller.
