Director Andy Muschietti shared his early childhood connection to comics and that despite a multi-decade break away from them, this film was an opportunity to reconnect with something near and dear to his heart.
“Personally, my connection to comic books come from childhood. I took a break, probably a 30-year break between my passionate connection with comic books and this movie, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I can’t say I’m a hardcore nerd of comic books, but I definitely had that in my heart for a long time and when [Warner Bros.] approached me. I said let’s give it a shot because there’s something there that I [would] really like to reconnect with,” Andy Muschietti said.
Producer Barbara Muschietti showed an immense appreciation to the studio for allowing her brother Andy to make the film he wanted to.
“It’s fascinating that you know your biggest gift is also your biggest problem, which is money, you know? You got more money, and that’s great. You get more money and that’s terrible too. But I have to say and this is real – We had so much support from the studio to do the movie that Andy wanted to do. It was almost shocking the support and trust that they put in us in a movie of this size. And I think that shows because we got to do something very personal,” Barbara Muschietti said.
