Part 1 of The Glory debuted on Netflix on December 30, 2022 and has gone on to be another successful Korean release around the world, with Part 2 scheduled for release on March 10.
The series has so far recorded a total of 148 million hours watched and placed in the top 10 charts for 3 weeks in row, remaining in the top 10 of 34 countries on the Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English TV list.
Writer Kim Eun-sook promises that Part 2 will satisfy viewers.
“If you’ve watched Part 1, you won’t be able to resist Part 2,” Kim said. “Part 2 is refreshingly satisfying and shockingly intense.”
Seriously, The Glory has been my first Korean series binge for 2023 and it was well-worth the 3 a.m. bedtimes for 3 nights in a row. Actress Song Hye-kyo plays Dong-Eun, a teacher who faced constant bullying and physical abuse during high school by a specific group of bullies. Despite quitting school in response to the unending torture, she focuses her efforts then on towards enacting revenge later on in life.
Director An Gil-ho highlighted the conflict between our main character Dong-eun and her foe Yeon-jin reaching new levels in the second half.
“The fight between Dong-eun and Yeon-jin really takes off and the perpetrators dynamically meet their end,” An said. “You won’t be able to take your eyes off of the screen. All elements of the story will now come full circle.”
Bitter vengeance isn’t the most relatable or healthy emotion to feel, but this series has masterfully communicated the pain and suffering of victims of bullying into its flashbacks. By the time the series brings us to the present day of Dong-Eun’s adulthood where she initiates contact with her childhood bullies, it’s only natural to root her success and the downfall of others.
Catch The Glory Part 2 on Netflix on March 10.
