Paramount+ has announced its next original movie, The Tiger’s Apprentice, by debuting a teaser trailer. The film is an animated family feature with an outstanding ensemble voice cast starring Henry Golding (Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins), Brandon Soo Hoo, Lucy Liu (Shazam: Fury of the Gods), Sandra Oh (Quiz Lady), and Michelle Yeoh (The Brothers Sun).
Alongside the stars, the cast includes Bowen Yang (Fire Island), Leah Lewis (Elemental), Kheng Hua Tan (Crazy Rich Asians), Sherry Cola (Joy Ride), Deborah S. Craig (Meet Cute), Jo Koy (The Monkey King), Greta Lee (Past Lives), Diana Lee Inosanto (The Mandalorian), Patrick Gallagher (Night at the Museum), and Poppy Liu (The Afterparty).
The trailer feels incredibly nostalgic as it features the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and their correlating powers, which I feel will remind 90s kids of the classic series Jackie Chan Adventures. However, the animation style feels distinctly modern, and is sure to deliver its own pacing unlike an episodic television format. I’m looking forward to seeing The Tiger’s Apprentice.
The Tiger’s Apprentice premieres on Paramount+ on Friday, February 2, 2024.
Synopsis: The story centers on a normal boy, Tom, who gets drawn into this world against his wishes when his eccentric grandmother who he lives with in San Francisco’s Chinatown turns out to be the guardian of the phoenix egg. When his grandmother perishes in battle and is spirited away in a ghost cart, Tom must apprentice with an unlikely mentor – a tiger, Mr. Hu – to learn ancient magic and become the egg’s new protector. They team with an unlikely band of exotic creatures, each representing a different sign of the Chinese zodiac, who can morph into human form while retaining their innate animal characteristics.
Tom Lee, a Chinese American boy discovers that he is part of a long lineage of magical protectors known as the Guardians. Tom finds that in order to have a fighting chance against the evil forces that threaten the world, he must first bring the estranged Zodiac animal warriors back together as a unified team.
