Asian American artist Johnny Lee of The Hotel Lobby wants to inspire everyone to stand together against hate and discrimination with this call for racial unity and social change.
“What began as an anthem to support #BlackLivesMatter has evolved into uplifting the AAPI community and the LGBTQIA+ community – really empowerment for all people,” said Lee.
In a star-studded Avengers-like lineup of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) personalities, Lee brings together actors Simu Liu and Dante Basco, Kevin Kreider, Kelly Mi Li, and Kane Lim from “Bling Empire”, and more.
“There’s a long history of Asian discrimination in America, but there’s an equally long history of Asian American activism,” said Liu, Marvel Studio’s titular hero in the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. “It’s our responsibility to continue that fight and that legacy.”
After last week’s rallies supporting AAPI communities across the nation, this music video displays solidary for AAPI, BLM, and LGBTQIA+ lives.
“The song ‘Tonight’ is a reminder to stand together, tonight and every night, against fear, hate, and violence,” said Basco.
Other notable appearances in The Hotel Lobby’s music video include Lisa Ling, Kelly Hu, Hayden Szeto, Michael Campion, Christian Isaiah, Cade Michael, Henry Fong, KLAXX, Kaleena Zanders, and youth dancers of Mighty Shock L.A.
Proceeds from ‘Tonight’ will go towards StopAAPIhate.org.
Outside of The Hotel Lobby, Lee has directed Taboo’s ‘Stand Up / Stand N Rock #NoDAPL’ music video, which won an MTV Video Music Awad in 2017 for “Best Fight Against the System.”
