Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on How I Met Your Father, XO, Kitty, SAKRA, and You.
- How I Met Your Father: Season 2 Mid-Season Return Date
The 2-episode mid-season finale of How I Met Your Father was released on Hulu yesterday (Tuesday, March 28th). The series will continue on Tuesday, May 23rd with a new episode each week leading up to the 2-episode season finale on Tuesday, July 11th.
- Premiere Date for XO, Kitty Announced
Netflix has announced that XO, Kitty will be premiering on the streaming service on May 18, 2023.
Series creator and Co-Showrunner Jenny Han sees this new show as a gift to the character of Kitty and a step towards independence away from her sister featured in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy.
“We all fell so deeply in love with Lara Jean and her story. So it felt like the greatest gift to give to Kitty was to let her as a character kind of set off on her own two feet and not put her in the shadow of either of her sisters,” Han said.
Co-Showrunner Sascha Rothchild echoed the sentiment of Kitty continuing in her own direction.
“She’s stepping into the fore – picking up the baton from Lara Jean,” Rothchild said.
- Donnie Yen’s Next Theatrical Appearance: SAKRA
Donnie Yen will be starring, directing, and producing a new film, SAKRA, arriving in theaters on April 14 and available on digital on April 18.
Yen will be playing Qiao Fend, the leader of a traveling group of martial artists. After being wrongly accused of murder and being exiled, he goes on the run to seek answers about his own mysterious origins as well as his unknown enemies that seek his destruction.
SAKRA is based on the classic novel, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils by Louis Cha, better known globally by his pen name Jin Yong. The story is of the wuxia genre, which refers to Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists in ancient China.
- Fifth & Final Season Confirmed for You
After spending 5 weeks in the Global Top 10 English TV list and reaching the Top 10 in 90 countries, Netflix has confirmed its hit series You will be returning for a fifth and final season.
Details on Season 5 will be shared at a later time, but for now it has been announced that showrunner Sera Gamble will be passing the baton to work on other projects and continuing on as an Executive Producer. Stepping up as Co-Showrunners are Executive Producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo.
“Working with Greg and Sera on You has been a highlight of our careers and we’re incredibly honored to be entrusted with the final chapter of Joe Goldberg’s story,” Foley and Lo said.
Sharing similar sentiments, Gamble expressed gratitude and pride when it came to what she was able to accomplish with her collaborators.
“As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I’m immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix. Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun,” Gamble said. “And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”
