The world of pop culture is a never ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is a Dorkaholics segment meant to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more!
- Wonder Woman 3 No More?
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a third Wonder Woman by Patty Jenkins would no longer be in the works as DC Studios’ new leadership team of James Gunn and Peter Safran are in the process of finalizing their multi-year plan for a presentation to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
Time will tell if Gal Gadot will remain as Wonder Woman for what is to come from DC.
As a DC Comics fan, it was encouraging to see the appearance of SPOILERS (Superman) at the end of Black Adam, as it seemed to indicate DC would be open to retaining certain portrayals, characters, and canon in their multiverse universe moving forward. However, could we see a different actress or character as Wonder Woman?
- James Gunn Responded(-ish)
In an attempt to calm the masses, Gunn acknowledged the Hollywood Reporter’s story yet confirmed very little, if nothing at all.
“Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time and we’re still just beginning,” Gunn continued. “Peter [and] I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told [and] in the audience itself [and] there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.”
He continues on with that tweet thread to acknowledge the circumstances he entered at DC, he takes the opportunity to share his and Safran’s “for fans, by fans” approach to telling stories about beloved characters across multiple mediums.
“But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities [and] the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far [and] to help rectify what has not. We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY [and] in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives. As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time [and] attention they deserve [and] we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer.”
- Twitter is still Twitter for us
As evident from the first two updates for this week’s What’s New Wednesday, it turns out that Twitter is still a major source of updates from creatives in the entertainment industry to announce updates and respond to news.
- Margot Robbie says James Gunn and Peter Safran are a Dynamic Duo for DC
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Margot Robbie was asked about her opinion on Gunn’s new role.
“It’s crazy,” Robbie said. “And Peter Safran, so he was also the producer on The Suicide Squad, so I know them both really well and they’re a dynamic duo. I think that’s such a get for DC.”
