Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Problemista, Medusa Deluxe, Blue Beetle, and Wonka.

  1. Problemista: Second Trailer Out Now

A24’s next film is Problemista, the feature film debut of Julio Torres who also wrote and stars in the film. As the film’s release nears, a new second trailer has been released. Catch Problemista in select theaters August 4 and everywhere August 25.

Problemista stars Julio Torres, Tilda Swinton, RZA, Isabella Rossellini, Larry Owens, Catalina Saavedra, and Greta Lee, who starred in Past Lives, another A24 film.

Synopsis: Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream. From writer/director Julio Torres comes a surreal adventure through the equally treacherous worlds of New York City and the U.S. Immigration system.

  1. Medusa Deluxe: New Trailer

Thomas Hardiman makes his feature debut with Medusa Deluxe, a comedy meets murder mystery set backstage in a hairdressing competition. Medusa Deluxe will be in select theaters and video-on-demand beginning August 11, 2023.

Medusa Deluxe stars Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Clare Perksins, Darrell D’Silva, Debris Stevenson, Harriet Webb, Heider Ali, Kae Alexander, Kayla Meikle, Lilit Lesser, Luke Pasqualino, Nicholas Karimi.

Synopsis: Talented, ambitious, and backstabbing hairstylists gather for a competition in England, only to find one of their own murdered before judging can begin. Winding through neon-lit halls and backstage dressing rooms, competitors unspool long-simmering resentments and secrets as they search for the killer among them, in this devilishly funny whodunit from debut filmmaker Thomas Hardiman.

  1. Blue Beetle: New Trailer

The final trailer for Blue Beetle is out now. This time around the trailer touches on the family dynamics that the film will highlight and set Jaime Reyes apart from other superheroes. Whereas caped crusaders are often living dual lives and having to maintain secret identities from those closest to them, Blue Beetle will be showing what a superhero can be like when he has his family aware and involved in his heroics.

Blue Beetle is only in theaters August 18, 2023.

  1. Wonka: New Trailer Drops

Wonka will be in theaters December 15, 2023 and the first official trailer is now available.

Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
