Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Reginald the Vampire, Blackwater Lane, Sunny, and Smile 2.
- Reginald the Vampire: Episode 207 Sneak Peek
Things are dire for the group in Reginald the Vampire in their troubles against angels, but Maurice seems to also be in conflict with his emotions.
Release Date: Episode 207 is out on SYFY tonight (June 19, 2024) at 10 PM
Synopsis: Reginald Andres finally got his life together – when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesn’t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he’s not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend. A show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.
- Blackwater Lane: Don’t Sneak Up On Me Clip
Minka Kelly’s character is easily startled as she’s fixated on strange figures outside of her home in Blackwater Lane. Is she imagining it or is she not? Only one way to find out!
Release Date: In theaters on June 21, 2024
Synopsis: After witnessing a grisly tragedy, a woman is visited by a ghostly presence and starts to question her sanity. Based on the successful New York Times bestselling book by B.A. Paris.
- Sunny: Official Trailer
Rashida Jones’ character Suzie has an interest in Japan that is like most Dorkaholics: food and culture. But Sunny is a series that will involve robots as well as a mysterious plane crash with secrets that will be uncovered by Suzie and her new companion, the titular Sunny.
Release Date: On Apple TV+ on July 10, 2024
Synopsis: Sunny stars Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first, Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship. Together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.
- Smile 2: Teaser Trailer
The terror continues in Smile 2 as the curse of witnessing a death haunts a new character, this time a pop singer played by Power Rangers’ Naomi Scott. I imagine that the smiling adoration of fans and followers is a lot more uncomfortable to think about now for both Scott and her character.
Release Date: In theaters on October 18, 2024
Synopsis: About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
