Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Sing Sing, Hit-Monkey, Red One, and Heretic.
- Sing Sing: First Look
This first look at Sing Sing highlights the sincerity and truth in the story the cast bring to life. The cast members included those who have been incarcerated and had the opportunity to have ownership in the storytelling to tell the stories that they know firsthand.
Release Date: In select theaters on July 12, 2024; nationwide August 2, 2024
Synopsis: Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by acting in a theater group alongside other incarcerated men, including a wary newcomer (Clarence Maclin), in this stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors.
- Hit-Monkey Season 2: Trailer
The unlikely teamup of a primate and a ghost in New York City sounds like a whacky animated series, but Hit-Monkey has its roots with Marvel.
Release Date: On Hulu on July 15, 2024
Synopsis: In New York City, Monkey finds a path to escape his life of killing, while Bryce attempts to repair the damage to those he wronged in life. But what will it cost them to undo the past?
- Red One: Trailer
It’s about time we have a new holiday classic like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. But what makes this one special is the ensemble cast of Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and of course Santa Claus played by J.K. Simmons. Feels like a spiritual expansion on The Night Before, in the similar mashup of holiday films and bro comedies.
Release Date: In theaters on November 15, 2024
Synopsis: After Santa Claus – Code Name: RED ONE – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.
- Heretic: Trailer
After seeing the trailer to A24’s upcoming spine-chilling psychological horror, Heretic, I’m glad I don’t have to knock on doors of strangers as a missionary. There’s always going to be the risk of ending up in some twisted game to test my faith, which would probably make for an intense and frightening escape room (sounds like a marketing idea A24 should consider).
Release Date: In theaters on November 15, 2024
Synopsis: Two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
